Engineering Adventures Research
The Engineering Adventures (EA) team evaluates each EA curriculum unit throughout the development process. Our evaluation methods include pilot testing at afterschool and camp sites nationwide along with observations, focus groups (with educators and children), and reviews of children’s work.
Our evaluation and research show the following:
- Kids who use EA in out-of-school-time environments develop more positive attitudes about engineering (and related) careers when they engage in authentic engineering activities.
- The multiple entry points in EA, which include genuine context, hands-on exploration of materials, and exciting design challenges, successfully scaffold kids' learning and engagement in engineering.
- As they work through an EA design challenge, kids come up with ideas and have legitimate engineering experiences. Kids can write, draw, and talk about these ideas with deep knowledge and confidence.
