A new scholarship program will bring EiE to two high-needs Arizona school districts this year. Sunnyside School District and the John B. Wright Elementary School in the Tucson Unified School District will each receive a $37,000 grant through the "Raytheon-EiE School/District Scholarship Program." The grants will support professional development for a total of 50 teachers and provide EiE curriculum materials for each teacher's classroom.

“The EiE scholarship allows us to expand our initial pilot EiE program, which was restricted to third grade," says Mary Koenig, a teacher at John B. Wright Elementary. "Now we'll be able to train teachers from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade."

Designed to jumpstart the use of the EiE curriculum in an entire school or district, the scholarships are part of a $2 million grant from Raytheon that's helping spread the award-winning curriculum across the country. Says EiE director Christine Cunningham, "We’re really pleased to be able support these districts through the Raytheon program.”
